What have you done for your motorcycle lately?
Bike is done for this year. She handles great, brakes are sublime. Just need time and roads....

(The rear Givi is many years old....from back in my FZ1 days)

Getting ready for a weekend ride to the Osarks with an FJR1300 group. The bike got new (slightly used) Road 6GT tires front and rear, and fresh oil and filter.

And I thought the YZF filter was easy to get to. Check THIS out!

I also replaced the stock plastic rack and trunk adapter with a hand built rack that fits the trunk directly.

Original Yamaha plastic parts (center and right) were too small as a rack and too flexy as a trunk mount. They did nothing to strengthen the aluminum subframe, which is known to be weak on the FJR. Unpainted steel tube rack on the left.

I also added some bridging to the subframe that is hidden under the seat.

Finished rack is usable as a rack and is rock solid as a mount.
It took forever to fabricate, but was totally worth it.

Nice work!   Lovely bike.

I've been looking at buying a used sport touring bike of late.  There are some reasonable FJR's on the market, but the bike itself is too big for me, lol.

Edit: I want a sport tourer in addition to the Cat.... Wink

The FJR is like a big Cat.  A little more upright position.  With the suspension set up correctly, they will carve, although they won't lean quite as far at the Cat.
All aluminum frame, but huge engine makes it just a shade over 600 lbs.  About 150 more than the Cat.  At 1300cc it is more than double the displacement, which gives it some torque.  HP is just over 140 and top speed is just north of 150 mph.
Mine definitely wheelies more easily than the Cat despite it's longer wheelbase.

My commute is 67 miles round trip, and I like to go on long trips now and then.  The Cat did well at all of that, but the FJR is hands down better suited for the longer rides while it is not too much bike for a run into town.  Especially since I can stow my helmet and gear in the cases.

Something to think about.  Read up on them in the forums to learn about the various generations and their good and bad points.  Mine is a 2003 Gen 1 with no ABS.  The early ones had a poor design cam tensioner that needs replaced right away, and they tend to pour engine heat on your nuts.  All is corrected on mine, and I absolutely love it.   Big Grin
I do with it has cruise control, but that came along 10 years later.  Sad

Same here. I'm looking for an FZ6, 2007-2010. Seems to be higher quality and more power than the newer FZ6R. I can live without a lower fairing.
Looking at the cycle-ergo website, it's quite a bit more upright than the YZF. No carbs would be nice. Smile

Agreed!  I forgot to mention that the FJR is fuel injected.  What a plus!!
Yeah, sometimes the older versions are the keepers.  It pays to do your research.  I still love the YZF, but they are starting to get hard to find parts for.  Undecided

Any issues with the Yamaha tick?  I'd read that it affected some earlier models?

Even with the tick ruled out, I'm too short/weak for an FJR.  I've been looking at FJ09's and Tracers of late.  While not perfect, they offer great value.  I've also found a very nicely modded gen.2 FZ1.  But I'd hate to buy it just to be disappointed.

(Years ago I test rode a friend's new stock FZ1, and it felt awful compared to my gen 1.  Mind you, my bike had ohins, and was ivanized, etc...)

Personally, I find it difficult not to thrash a 600cc motor.  They are made to rev....but it gets tiring for distance.

A litre bike or the 900 triple have torque for lower RPM cruising....  (not too low hehe).

Never had Yamaha tick, but I do recall reading about it. I replaced the CCT with the latest version pretty quickly when I read about those being bad early on.
The engine is essentially the same no matter the year model, and they are still building them. They change electronics. They went to a sis-speed trans. Some had an auto clutch. But basically the same, so that's a good thing.

Been a while, hope y'all are well. Smile

Winter is coming...so she's getting prepped for storage. This winter:

-new fuel filter
-rear caliper clean and bleed
-front brake bleed (Brembo m/c and R6s calipers mod was a big success!)
-penske upgrade to remote compression reservoir
-safety wire grips
-install new Delkevic muffler (I could repack my existing one, but black Friday is coming)

I'm still really enamored with this bike. The only new bike that really excites me is the XSR900GP, but Yamaha is saving me a lot of money by not importing it. I'm sure I'd like riding a Ninja 1000, or GSXS1000 GT, but they hurt to look at.

I almost bought a used Tracer to sit beside the Cat, but I'm holding out for the XSR in 2026. I don't need another sportbike in my life, but damn. The new R9 looks amazing, too, but the ergos are a bit much for me.[Image: 4f5d7e6a3258e41225224e8559f3086c.jpg][Image: 803c90444b43d271bf859ccb1c1ccc98.jpg]

This is what happens if you foolishly assume just because your rear sprocket is good the front must be as well.  Embarassed
Bike has around 35,000 mi., rear sprocket looks great.  They both seem to be the original stock units.
Photo with an new one beside for a reminder of what new teeth look like.
